About the Kappler HMIC Scholarship
Kappler and Safeware are proud to support the hazardous materials response community by awarding one deserving hazmat professional a scholarship to attend the 2026 Hazardous Materials Instructors and Commanders (HMIC) Conference in Savannah, Georgia. The scholarship includes conference registration, airfare, and hotel accommodations*. This opportunity recognizes responders and leaders who are committed to advancing hazmat preparedness, professional development, and knowledge sharing within their departments and communities.
This scholarship will include:
- Full HMIC 2026 Conference Registration
- Airfare and hotel accommodations
- The opportunity to attend one of the nation's premier hazardous materials training conferences
* Total scholarship assistance not to exceed $3,000
Scholarship Eligibility & Selection Criteria
To be considered for the Kappler HMIC 2026 Scholarship, nominees should:
- Be an active member of a fire department, hazardous materials team, emergency management agency, military CBRN unit, or other public safety organization.
- Demonstrate a commitment to hazardous materials response, preparedness, training, or leadership.
- Show how attending HMIC 2026 will benefit both the nominee and their department or response organization.
- Be available to attend the full HMIC 2026 Conference if selected.
- Submit a complete scholarship application by the published deadline.
Selection Considerations
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Commitment to professional development and continuing education
- Leadership and service within the hazardous materials community
- Potential impact on their department or regional response capabilities
- Quality and thoughtfulness of the nomination
- Financial need or limited access to training opportunities (when applicable)

Scholarship Selection Process
The 2026 application period is open from
July 6th through September 6th.
Winning Nominee will be selected by a team from both Kappler and Safeware.
Winner will be notified via email and/or telephone.
Winner will have the option to choose to agree to be photographed or interviewed during the HMIC Conference.
The deadline to enter the Kappler HMIC Scholarshoip has passed.
